4436 - PERSONAL LEAVE

Application for the use of personal leave shall be filed with the immediate supervisor for approval at least two (2) days in advance of the expected use on the form provided. In case of emergency, the two-day requirement may be waived.

 A.Each year, classified employees shall be entitled to three (3) personal leave days that may be used without restriction (except for limitations below). Up to one (1) unused day may be carried over to the next school year. No employee shall have more than four (4) days of personal leave to his/her credit at the beginning of a school year.

 B.Personal leave days granted preceding or following a school holiday or school vacation time shall be limited to three (3) classified employees. A classified employee may only use two (2) personal days each school year preceding or following a school holiday. A classified employee may not use a personal leave day during the first five (5) or last five (5) instructional days of the school year unless prior written approval is provided by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

 C.No more than one (1) person per building per day may use a personal day unless a substitute is obtained, a substitute is not needed, or the person's work can be completed by regular personnel in the building.

 D.Application for use of these days shall be made on a specified form to the immediate supervisor at least two (2) days in advance of the intended use except in case of an emergency. Approvals shall be considered on the basis of the earliest application.
  Emergency approval shall be handled by phone or in person; however, the approved form shall be filled in and approved by the immediate supervisor or his/her agent at a later time.

 E.An employee may request to have up to one (1) unused day carried over to the next school year.

 F.Personal leave may be charged in one-half or full-day units.
