Vacation will begin to accrue on the first of the month following the month in which the employee becomes eligible. The number of days per month will be rounded for the nearest annual accumulation on the anniversary date of each employee. The anniversary date will be the first of the month the employee originally became eligible for vacation leave.

A full-time year-round employee is defined as one who is in service full time for not less than eleven (11) months in each work year.

The use of vacation time must be requested on the Vacation Request Form prior to its intended use. The local superintendent must approve or disapprove all vacation usage. The Superintendent may grant vacation leave in excess of the accumulated balance; however, the dollar value of unearned vacation leave used would be deducted from the final payroll check upon termination of employment. One-half (1/2) day shall be the minimum allowable usage.

Vacation days shall be accumulated at the end of each month worked. A record of days earned will be reflected in the vacation balance shown on the payroll stub the first pay date of each month. Days used shall be charged on the second pay day of each month and shown on the pay stub.

Vacation used must be recorded by the employee on the Monthly Activity Log and presented to the payroll office each month where it will be reconciled against the vacation request forms and payroll system files.

Upon separation, a classified school employee shall be paid for all lawfully accrued and unused vacation leave on credit. Such compensation shall be considered separation pay and, therefore, shall not be subject to retirement deductions.

In case of death of a regular employee under contract, such accrued and unused vacation leave and the prorated portion of the current year shall be paid in accordance with R.C. 2113.04 or to the estate.
