8442B - FIRST AID CARE FOR SCHOOL EMERGENCIES

The school physician or nurse, when present, should take care of any serious emergency. If the nurse is not present any staff member may administer first aid and notify parents. After first aid (the first treatment only), the legal responsibility for subsequent care rests with the parents.

Internal medication cannot be administered even in emergencies to any student by school personnel other than a physician. Any treatment beyond first aid of any condition, such as sore muscles, sprains, etc., is in violation of the Education Law.
