5600 - STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT

Since the Constitution and the law safeguard student rights, each student has the responsibility to protect his/her rights and the rights of other students to a learning environment that is free of disruptive and undesirable behavior. Students will be required to follow the administrative guidelines of the Board of Education and to observe the customary rules of courtesy and politeness while under the school's jurisdiction. Each student will have the right to a full explanation of any discipline administered by a teacher and/or administrator. The following types of behavior will result in disciplinary action which may include loss of privileges, detentions, in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, corporal punishment, cut in grade, and/or expulsion:

 A.fighting, disruption, or interference with curricular or extra-curricular activities.

 B.damage or destruction of school property.

 C.damage or destruction of private property.

 D.assault on school employee, student, or other person while in custody and control of the school, or in the course of a school-related activity.

 E.possession of dangerous weapons on school premises or while in custody and control of the school, or in the course of a school-related activity.

 F.possession or use of narcotics, alcoholic beverages, and other dangerous drugs while on school premises, or while in the custody and control of the school, or in the course of a school-related activity.

 G.students, including leaders of a student organizations, shall not plan, encourage, or engage in any hazing. Hazing is defined as doing any act or coercing another, including the victim, to do any act of initiation into any student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of causing mental or physical harm to any person. Permission, consent, or assumption of risk by an individual subjected to hazing does not lessen the prohibition contained in this policy.

 H.violation of rules of conduct for school buses.

 I.use of tobacco while on school premises, or while in the custody and control of the school, or in the course of a school related activity.

 J.stealing of school or private property while on school premises, or while in the custody and control of the school, or in the course of a school-related activity, or possession or sale of said stolen property.

 K.violation of attendance policy.

 L.violation of Board adopted dress code.

 M.abuse of student driving and parking privileges including reckless operation of motor vehicle on or near school premises.

 N.being insubordinate by showing disrespect toward a school employee, student, or guest of the school.

 O.disregard of reasonable directions or commands by school personnel.

 P.inappropriate display of affection while on school premises, or while in the custody and control of the school, or in the course of a school-related activity.

 Q.a student shall not use any form of profanity, written or verbal. Included in this prohibition would be the use of obscene gestures, signs, pictures, or publications.

 R.a student shall not engage in any act which intimidates, threatens, degrades, or disgraces a fellow student, visitor, administrator, or member of the school staff by written, verbal, or gestural means.

 S.students will not sell or attempt to sell or distribute any object or substance which has not been authorized for sale or distribution by the administration.

 T.skipping or cutting class, which is defined as not being in the assigned classroom, study hall, library, assembly, or homeroom.

 U.leaving school grounds during school hours without proper permission.

 V.removing automobile from parking lot during school without proper permission.

 W.repeated violations - any series of behavioral violations that create a pattern of misconduct may result in suspension and/or expulsion.

 X.speaking maliciously without regard to the truth about others.

 Y.speaking to incite others to damage property or to physically harm others.
