5430 - CLASS RANK AND HONORS

The Board of Education has authorized the use of a class ranking system for grades 9 - 12, and an honor roll for all grades. The system to be used is detailed below:

 A.Class Rank
The Board has authorized a system of class ranking, by grade point average, for students in grades 9 - 12. All students shall be ranked together, except those in special education courses.

1.Class rank shall be computed from the final grade in all subjects. Any two (2) or more students whose computed grade point averages are identical shall be given the same rank.

2.The rank of the student who immediately follows a tied position will be determined by the number of students preceding him/her and not by the rank of the person preceding him/her.

3.In recognition of the heavier burden of advanced work, grade point averages shall be weighed by awarding extra units for unusually difficult courses as determined by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.

4.A student's grade point average and rank in class shall be entered on his/her record and shall be subject to the Board's policy on release of student records. Rank in class shall be entered on student's records and on all transcripts.

 B.Honor Rolls
The honor roll is to be published at the end of each grading period according to the following criteria:

  1.Grade 1 - 6 Handwriting grades are excluded.

2.To be published in such a manner as to make distinction between those who have made all A's and those that have received A's and B's.
