Administrative Guidelines
 

4120.08 - USE OF UNPAID VOLUNTEER AIDES

Unpaid volunteer aides may be used throughout the school system and the staff is encouraged to make use of them in the following ways under the conditions outlined below.

 A.Types of Volunteer Service

  1.One (1) day resource service projects such as a lecture, a demonstration or assistance on a field trip.

  2.Short term resource service projects comparable to number 1 above, but not extending beyond a five (5) day period.

  3.Continuing classified projects which extend over long periods or for the entire school year such as library aides, teacher aides, and office aides.

 B.Procedures to be Followed

  1.Volunteers for one (1) day and short term resource service projects may be contacted and scheduled by the individual school principal desiring the service without approval of the central office.

  2.All other volunteers are to be approved by the Superintendent.

 C.Supervision
  All volunteers shall be under the direct supervision of the school principal and the teacher to whom they are assigned. They may not be used in an administrative capacity.

 D.Limitation
  Classified positions will not be abolished so that volunteer aides may be used to replace paid employees.

 E.Projects Which May Be Assigned to Volunteers
  Assignments may include, but need not be limited to, the following classified tasks:

  1.duplicating tests and other materials,

  2.helping with classroom housekeeping,

  3.typing class materials, tests, etc.,

  4.setting up A.V. and other equipment and instructional materials (as qualified),

  5.helping with children's clothing,

  6.supervising the playground under immediate certificated supervision,

  7.reading aloud and story telling,

  8.assisting with the school library program,

  9.assisting in location of information in encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc.,

  10.other related classified tasks,

  11.assisting with the school lunch program.
