Administrative Guidelines
 

2520A - SELECTION OF TEACHING MATERIALS

In accordance with the policies of the Board of Education for adoption of resource materials, the following guidelines should be followed:

 A.Criteria for Selection of Instructional and Media Materials May Include:
  Quality of writing/production.
  Readability and popular appeal.
  Authoritativeness.
  Reputation of the publisher/producer.
  Reputation and significance of the author/artist/composer producer, etc.
  Format and price.
  Needs of the individual school program based on requests from administrators and teachers.
  Needs of the individual students based on knowledge of children and youth.
  Needs of the individual students based on requests by parents and students.
  Needs of the individual students based on broad area job orientation.
  Needs developed through the use of these criteria will require a wide range of instructional materials on all levels of difficulty and with a diversity of appeal. It will require the presentation of different points of view -- ethnic, religious, political, and cultural.

 B.Evaluation Resource Tools May Include:

  1.An individual professional staff member or two (2) or more professional staff members acting in concert, shall review and evaluate materials suggested for use and shall make recommendations to the principal.

  2.The principal shall investigate the reason for, and the basis upon which the recommendation has been made.

  3.The principal shall then accept or reject the recommendation. Copies of the teacher's recommendations plus the principal's evaluation will be forwarded to the Office of the Superintendent.

  4.The Superintendent will then review the recommendations. S/He will either refer them back through proper channels to their initiators or will prepare an endorsement of the recommendations for presentation to the Board for its approval.
