| Administrative Guidelines |
2431E - GUIDELINES FOR VOLLEYBALL
Eligibility to Play
| A. | All female students in grades 7 and 8, who are academically eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities, are eligible for participation in the volleyball program at Racine Southern Jr. High School. It is preferred that students begin participating in volleyball in grades 7 and 8, graduating to the high school program as 9th graders. | ||
| B. | Students must be in the high school program no later than grade 10. First year players in grades 11 and 12 may try out for the team; however, it is very unlikely that they will be able to acquire the skills necessary to be a contributing athlete to the program. | ||
| C. | Foreign exchange students and students transferring to Southern Jr. High from another school will be permitted to try out for the team. | ||
| D. | If a student quits the team, she will not be permitted to return to the team during the season, and she may not try out the following year. | ||
| E. | If a player is injured during the season or in the off season causing her to miss the season, she will be permitted to try out the following year. | ||
| F. | If a player misses practice or game because of an injury requiring doctor's care, she must have a doctor's release before she can return to practice or play. |
General Rules
| A. | If a player takes a vacation with parents or a planned vacation includes a player, that player is not to be dismissed from the team. However, the coach should discuss possible consequences with the parents and the player. | ||
| B. | When games are played away from Southern High School, players are to travel on transportation designated by the head coach. Most trips will be by school bus -- under certain circumstances, close trips will be by cars. Parents are to provide transportation when car trips are necessary. | ||
| C. | All Jr. High players are required to stay and watch the high school HOME matches. This is considered to be an important part of our program and is a learning situation. | ||
| D. | Any athlete, while a member of the volleyball team representing Southern Jr. High, at home or away, who destroys, damages, defaces, breaks, or steals property of the school or facilities used for games and practices, including school buses, shall make them subject to dismissal from the squad. Never get yourself into a situation that could cause embarrassment to yourself, your coaches, or Southern Local School District. | ||
| E. | When stopping to eat, students representing the volleyball squad will behave properly while in the eating establishment. No food or trash is to be left on the tables or on the floor. Improper behavior will not be tolerated! | ||
| F. | Injuries and Insurance: |
| 1. | It is mandatory that all athletes be covered by insurance. | |||

| c. | injury release form from the treating doctor is required to return to practice and games |
| G. | Any athlete who is under penalty of in-school suspension or out-of-school suspension will not be permitted to practice or play during the suspension. They will be eligible to return to practice or play the day following the end of the suspension. | ||
| H. | There will sometimes be practice on Sunday when a game is scheduled for Monday. | ||
| I. | Parents and players will receive a copy of the entire statement of rules and policies. Both will be asked to read the entire booklet, and they must sign and return a statement stating that they have read and understand all of the rules and policies of the Southern volleyball program. |
Training Rules (In Season)
| A. | Athletes must be in attendance at least one-half (1/2) day of school to practice or participate in an athletic contest. Anytime a player will be late or absent from practice, she must contact the coach personally. Do not send messages with other players! | ||
| B. | The student athlete may not, at any time, use or possess any tobacco product. | ||
| C. | The student athlete shall not possess, use, transmit or be under the influence of any narcotic drug, hallucinogenic drug, amphetamine, barbiturate, marijuana, alcoholic beverage or intoxicant of any kind. Use of a drug as authorized by a licensed physician shall not be considered a violation of this rule. | ||
| D. | The student athlete shall not intentionally cause or attempt to cause damage to school property; steal or attempt to steal school property, including but not limited to athletic equipment, uniforms, supplies, and personal items of others. | ||
| E. | No athlete shall use any form of abusive or profane language or gestures toward a coach, another player, a teacher, administrator, authorized match official, or spectator. | ||
| F. | No athlete shall physically attack or abuse a coach or teammate or his/her property. | ||
| G. | All athletes shall comply with specific training rules and regulations for their sport distributed to them by the coach at the beginning of the season. | ||
| H. | Players will, at all times, abide by the rules and policies set forth by the Southern Local School Board. | ||
| I. | If an athlete is absent from school, she must inform the coach personally of her absence and reason for being absent. If the student has an unexcused absence, then the student will not play in the next game. | ||
| J. | If a player misses practice the week of a game, she will not be permitted to start that game. | ||
| K. | Any player that is late for practice will run one sprint for each minute she is late. | ||
| L. | If any player is in danger of failing a class, she must notify the coach so that help may possibly be given. |

Training Rules (Out of Season)
| A. | Players shall conduct themselves in such a manner conducive of an athlete. Do not embarrass yourself, the team, or the Southern Local School District. | ||
| B. | Players shall try to attend as many open gyms as possible. | ||
| C. | If possible, players should try to attend camps or play on an AAU or summer league team. |
***Any situation not covered in this guidelines will be dealt with by the head coach.
Equipment
| A. | Players will be issued two (2) uniforms and a practice uniform at the beginning of the season. Players are responsible for their equipment. If any piece of that equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged in any way, the player responsible for that equipment will reimburse the school for that piece of equipment. | ||
| B. | All equipment will be returned to the coach the week following the last game of the season. | ||
| C. | If you use a locker, keep it locked so that none of your equipment will be stolen or misplaced. You are responsible for all of your equipment and will be held accountable for it. | ||
| D. | Do not leave valuables laying around in the locker room. You are responsible for your valuables! |
