2431 - INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS
DIVISION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Senior High School Principal
| A. | The Senior High School Principal shall be responsible in all matters pertaining to interscholastic athletic activities involving Southern Local High School. | ||
| B. | S/He shall fulfill all duties and responsibilities as they pertain to interscholastic athletics as prescribed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Board of Education. | ||
| C. | S/He and the Athletic Director shall oversee all ticket sales and the handling of ticket revenue. | ||
| D. | S/He shall keep a record available at all times regarding the latest up-to-date information on the eligibility of the current season sports squads for Southern Local High School. Cheerleaders and team managers shall be included in this record. | ||
| E. | S/He shall recommend to the Superintendent an individual to act as sponsor for senior high school cheerleaders. | ||
| F. | S/He shall handle matters pertaining to insurance and processing of medical claims at the senior high school level as they apply for the current year. |
Director of Athletics
The Director of Athletics shall:
| A. | direct and coordinate all activities of the Department of Athletics and be directly responsible to the principal. | ||
| B. | together with the principal approve all athletic contests before they are contracted. | ||
| C. | prepare the total athletic budget for presentation to the Board for formal adoption. | ||
| D. | ascertain that all rules and regulations of the Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Board are upheld and enforced. | ||
| E. | strive to promote good public relations with the general public, news media, opponent's schools, civic organizations, Southern Local Athletic Booster Club, and the Band Boosters. | ||
| F. | arrange for ambulance service at football games. | ||
| G. | arrange for the transportation with bus coordinator and meals of all Southern Local District Athletic teams. | ||
| H. | check the readiness of all high school facilities for teams and the crowd prior to game time. | ||
| I. | prepare financial reports of all revenues and expenditures for all high school athletic contests. | ||
| J. | coordinate the planning of such events as athletic assemblies, Parents Night, Homecoming, Banquets, Booster Club Activities, etc. All plans should be cleared with the Senior High School Principal. | ||
| K. | prepare all game contracts, specifying the date, time, and location; keep all signed contracts on file and current for all sports; be a co-signer with the principal on all contracts. | ||
| L. | make arrangements for physical examinations for candidates for athletic squads after checking with the head coach. | ||
| M. | employ, and pay all contest officials and personnel including game officials, police, announcer, timer, scoreboard operator, ticket sellers and takers, etc. | ||
| N. | issue all passes and complimentary tickets. | ||
| O. | regulate the use of the press box and the public address system. | ||
| P. | set up the flag raising ceremony and the playing of the National Anthem. | ||
| Q. | reconfirm the athletic contest, one (1) week prior to the game date, with the visiting school and game officials. | ||
| R. | keep on file all game contracts, official's contracts, and completed current physical examination cards. | ||
| S. | make arrangements with the hospital and parents whereby emergency medical care may be given as shown on high school medical form. | ||
| T. | arrange for ordering and presenting letters and other athletic awards. | ||
| U. | handle all matters pertaining to radio broadcasts. | ||
| V. | arrange for reconditioning of athletic equipment. |
Head Coach
The Head Coach shall:
| A. | be responsible for all matters relating to the organization and administration of the coaching of the team under his/her direction and shall enforce all rules of the Ohio High School Athletic Association as they concern his/her respective sport. | ||
| B. | assign duties to all assistant coaches including Reserve, Freshman, and Junior High and evaluate the performance of these coaches as they fulfill their duties and responsibilities. | ||
| C. | plan all practice sessions. | ||
| D. | be responsible for preparing public information releases regarding their particular sport. | ||
| E. | assist in planning of special events as: Assemblies, Parents Night, Homecoming, Banquets, etc. | ||
| F. | maintain an accurate squad roster at all times, being certain that it is up-to-date and on file with the athletic director and principal. | ||
| G. | cooperate with the athletic director in setting up physical examination schedules and verify that no candidate is issued equipment or allowed to practice until his/her examination card has been completed and his/her insurance coverage is in effect. | ||
| H. | assign at least one (1) coach to be with the squad at all times. This includes locker room supervision until all squad members have left the building. A spot check should then be made to see that all windows, doors, and gates are locked in any area that has been used by his/her athletic team. | ||
| I. | prepare a detailed equipment and supply request to be submitted to the athletic director. | ||
| J. | arrange for the presentation of team awards through the athletic director and principal. | ||
| K. | recommend to the athletic director teams that may be scheduled and officials to be employed. | ||
| L. | announce and enforce all guidelines concerning conditioning of players and training rules affecting the health and safety of the players. | ||
| M. | report injuries of participants to the athletic director and principal. Coaches are urged to exercise great care in dealing with all injuries and particularly those that are of a serious nature. Following injuries of a serious or prolonged nature, the coach should secure the signed approval of the doctor and parent before the athlete is allowed again to participate in athletic activities. | ||
| N. | be expected, after decisions and policies have been established, to support and conform to them. | ||
| O. | shall assign duties, with the athletic director, to the equipment manager. |
Assistant Coach
(This classification includes Varsity Assistants, Reserve, Freshman, and Junior High Coaches.)The Assistant Coach shall:
| A. | support the head coach in conducting the athletic program of his/her particular sport and the total athletic program of the District. | ||
| B. | be loyal to the coach and to the team. The assistant may have to give up some of his/her own ideas concerning methods, strategy, etc. to carry out the pattern established by the head coach. | ||
| C. | attend staff meetings when called by the head coach. | ||
| D. | assist with the scouting of varsity games in football and basketball when requested by the head coach of that sport. | ||
| E. | assume the duties assigned him/her by the head coach relative to the overall program of his/her particular sport. |
In the absence of the head coach, s/he may be asked by the athletic director to assume the responsibility of the head coach for a limited period.
